Philippine mahogany (more commonly referred to as "Luan" or "Luan Paneling") was the material of choice for interior walls of most Eichler Homes built in Marin & San Francisco County in the mid-late 1950's and early 60s. This honey-colored, 1/4" thick mahogany paneling provided Joseph Eichler homes with a warm and homey feel while also providing an inviting contrast to the light-filled environment common to all Eichler homes.
Preserving the original mahogany panels is often a high priority for Eichler aficionados however many owners have walls that have been painted, stained, replaced or updated as part of an Eichler remodeling project.
