Atherton Eichler Homes

With fewer that 20 Eichler homes, Atherton has a smaller Eichler presence than many other Peninsula and South Bay communities.  Eichler homes in Atherton can be found in the Lindenwood neighborhood on Irving Drive and between Linden Avenue and Middlefield Road.  There is a second group of Eichlers in the Fair Oaks neighborhood on Placitas and Encina Avenues, between Oak Drive and Middlefield Road.

Like Ladera, in Portola Valley, Atherton was a vision that Eichler never totally realized.  Initial plans for Atherton’s Lindenwood neighborhood included four different models with both 3 and 4-bedroom designs.  However, after building only a few homes, Eichler abandoned the project.  In 1960 he returned to build several more homes in the Fair Oaks neighborhood.  As is in keeping with real estate in Atherton, most of the Eichler homes are built on larger parcels than is usual for Eichlers, with the average being close to an acre.

As a note of interest: From 1951 to 1965, Joseph Eichler lived in a home located on Irving Avenue in Lindenwood.  His home was designed by Anshen + Allen.
