Recently the lobby of a San Francisco condominium building underwent a major facelift, transforming it from a tired space with fussy style into a sleek reception area that celebrates the building’s origins. What makes this noteworthy to Eichler lovers is that the building is the iconic Eichler Summit at 999 Green Street.

Built by Joseph Eichler in the mid 1960s, The Summit is a 32-story luxury condominium high-rise that sits atop the prestigious Russian Hill in San Francisco. Many homes at 999 Green Street are multi-million dollar properties with unparalleled views of the Bay and San Francisco cityscape. While residents have kept up with the times, and units reflect the luxury and contemporary style that goes with the address and the views, the

For any of you who live in the Bay Area (or are looking for a fun weekend getaway), Kitchens In The Vineyards Home And Garden Tour in the Napa Valley promises to be a fun event. Somehow this didn’t make it onto my radar when I was putting together the upcoming events section for April’s Eichler Newsletter. I’m not sure how I missed it – but you know what they say, better late than never!!

The weekend kicks off with Friday’s (April 24, 2015) Preview Party, which includes a private tour of the homes (champagne included!), a reception at sunset, and a wine paired dinner in the Vineyard Room at Robert Mondavi Winery.

Saturday, April 25, 2015, the self-guided tour will take you to five glamorous Napa Valley homes where kitchens, dining rooms,

When I was a teenager I was an exchange student and lived in a city near Helsinki, Finland. It was a challenging year – and a wonderful one. I was welcomed into my host family as a third daughter. I went to school, learned Finnish ways, and came to the realization that I was strong and independent. I was lucky and had the best host family that anyone could want, but spending an entire year away from the U.S. and all that was familiar was an eye-opener – and probably the best growing experience I could ever ask for. I came to love Finland, my Finnish family, and my Finnish friends. I also came to love the kind of architecture and design that I appreciate so keenly today.

A recent publication by Dwell magazine brought back all these memories. It was

It is time, once again, for the fleeting and fragrant Bouquets to Art exhibition at the de Young Museum in San Francisco. For more than three decades, some of the Bay Area’s top floral designers have participated in this annual event with their interpretations of pieces in the museum’s permanent collection. Using flowers and plant material, designers create stunning and inspirational floral works of art. It is an amazing display.  Try to find the time this week to get into the City and check out this very special show. I guarantee you’ll look at flower arranging in a whole new way and may well be inspired to go home and create a masterpiece of your own!

In addition to this 31st annual exhibition, the Bouquets to Art event will include an opening night

I love Heath Ceramics.  They always seem to have something appealing and appropriate – no matter what your style, whether it be MCM, traditional, eclectic, or something else.  Heath recently revealed their new Spring/Summer collection – and it is beautiful, with elegant pieces and a gorgeous color palette.

Using glazes in a spectrum of greens and yellows, the colors are fresh and, as Heath Ceramics says, they “capture the crispness and energy of the season.”  Heath is offering a wide variety of home, garden, and personal accessories from seeds and jewelry to linens and tableware.  Visit Heath Ceramics’ seasonal collection and see for yourself.  I’ll just bet that you’ll find that perfect little something to perk up your home and open the door to summer.

The market is picking up and I’m excited about two new Eichler listings I’ll be offering in the near future.  The homes are located in two of San Rafael’s major Eichler neighborhoods, Terra Linda and Marinwood – at 849 Del Ganado Road and 550 Cedarberry Lane, respectively.

Terra Linda was Joseph Eichler’s first project in Marin and, with 900 homes, is Marin’s largest Eichler neighborhood.  Most of the Eichlers in Terra Linda were built in the middle to late ‘50s and were designed by Anshen + Allen and Jones & Emmons.

Marinwood, sometimes referred to as Lower Lucas Valley, was developed in the late 1950s and features moderately sized homes.  As in Terra Linda, the Eichlers in Marinwood were designed by Anshen + Allen and Jones & Emmons.
