Define Your Decorating Style With A Little Mid-Century/Contemporary Glam
If you are looking to inject a little Mid-Century glamour into your Eichler or Mid-Century Modern home, your options are expanding. Mid-Century style has become popular – and as its popularity grows, so do your options for furnishing and décor.
Some Mid-Century Modern homeowners strive to recreate the retro Mid-Century look of the Rat Pack era; meaning simple lines, bold colors, and geometric shapes. Other MCM aficionados go for a sleek contemporary modern look, which can be eclectic and incorporates Mid-Century concepts into what is currently popular.
One way to develop your style is to do a little daydreaming online or visit shops that offer up-to-the-minute items. A nice site for wishful thinking is dwell.com. Dwell is dedicated to modern design and is full of just about everything you can ever imagine needing or wanting for a fashionable home. The online Dwell store carries some of the latest and greatest in home furnishing, from tableware to lifestyle luxuries.
Another of my favorite online resources is Design Within Reach, a one-stop shopping website for just about everything you can imagine. Despite its name, some furnishings the site features can be a bit pricey, but they are leaders of the pack in having tons of choices for just about every home furnishing and décor need you can imagine. From Cherner chairs and Eames rockers for kids to lighting, home accessories, and outdoor furniture – DWR has something for everybody and every place in your home. And, if you are the type that likes to actually see and touch something before you buy, DWR also has studios throughout the U.S., including eight in California.
Modani just opened an 11,000 sq. ft. modern furniture store in San Francisco – and are still offering a few “Grand Opening” specials. The new Modani is located in the San Francisco Design District, so you can make a day of it and have fun visiting Modani, DWR, and a host of awesome showrooms. Not from the Bay Area – but still love Modern design? Modani has showrooms in Los Angeles and many of the major metropolitan areas in the U.S.
I know I’ve only mentioned a couple of the myriad of stores and showrooms that feature amazing contemporary furniture and accessories. Someday I hope I can get focused enough to compile a great list, but in the meantime, I’d love to hear from you about some of your favorite spots where you exercise your MCM sensibilities!
One last thought: Check out the current listings on our Eichler For Sale website. Many of the Eichlers for sale that we feature have been beautifully staged – and you can live a little vicariously and pick up ideas for some great Eichler décor!
