Mark your calendar for Saturday, June 27, 2015 when the American Institute of Architects, Orange County will host the 2015 Eichler Home Tour. The five featured homes are on a mile-long route in the Fairhaven neighborhood in the city of Orange. I don’t think it gets more convenient than that! Park once, then stroll through the neighborhood as you visit these iconic MCM homes.

The hours for the tour are a bit nontraditional. The event begins at 5 pm and extends through 8:30 pm, with an after tour reception for AIA members at 8 pm. Tickets for the tour are $25 for AIA members, $35 for non-members, and $10 for the reception.

Not part of the tour, but open to all participants is a pre-event Happy Hour, hosted by Eichler SoCal and Better Living SoCal.

Is it just me, or is Dwell on Design LA offering some especially fun events this year? While I always have my eye on what DODLA has to offer, I think they’ve outdone themselves this year.

First of all, of course I love that they will be featuring Stephen Eichler (grandson of Joseph Eichler) in a special look at Eichler And The Future Of Mid-Century Modern Architecture. Eichler’s got an interesting perspective on Eichler homes – and on his grandfather. This event is likely to be high on many SoCal Eichler owners’ bucket lists; and if you are a Northern CA Eichler aficionado and looking for a mini getaway, I don’t think a trip to LA to take in this event would be a waste of time!

Another event that caught my eye is a slide show that will be

Get ready for the 5th Marin Living: Home Tours, set for May 30, 2015. This daylong event promises to be fun for architecture buffs, a nice glimpse into Marin neighborhoods and Marin style for prospective homebuyers, and an enjoyable way to spend the day for anyone looking for a mini road trip.

This year’s tour will provide a glimpse into a Marinwood Eichler that has been transformed inside and out into a 21st Century home while maintaining Eichler’s original design intent. The Marin home tour will also include three unique contemporary homes: a multi-pavilioned home in Fairfax, a very modern ranch situated on 42 acres near Nicasio, and a sustainably designed hillside home in San Anselmo.

The tour looks like great fun and a wonderful way to see a

Dwell On Design has an event scheduled that is sure to capture the interest of us Eichler lovers. On Friday, May 29, 2015 Joseph Eichler’s grandson, Steven Eichler, will share his thoughts and insights, personal photos, and memories of his grandfather’s legacy when he appears onstage at the LA Convention Center as part of the weeklong Dwell on Design LA event.

This weekend’s Silicon Valley Modern Home Tour is going to be an Eichler-palooza. Of the six featured homes on this self-guided tour, three are Eichlers and a fourth is a brand new, Eichler-inspired, atrium home. The remaining two Mid-Century homes on the tour are a Palo Alto home that was designed by Eichler architects Anshen + Allen and a 1963 post-and-beam, steel framed home designed by Beverley David Thorne.

Since this a self-guided, go-at-your-own-pace tour, I imagine you can begin wherever you want – and, if you haven’t already purchased tickets, they will be available on the day of the tour at any of the tour homes:

This week the always beautiful and sometimes controversial Sea Ranch will celebrate its 50th year with open doors when nine homes showcasing the evolution of the Sea Ranch architectural tradition through the decades will be featured as part of the annual Mendocino-Sonoma Coast home tour.

Included in the tour is a 1966 Hedgerow House, one of six designed by Joseph Esherick. With their rustic wood siding and sloping roofs, the Hedgerow Houses defined the original Sea Ranch style. The progression of the decades will also include showcase structures designed by Charles Moore and William Turnbull – both original Sea Ranch architects. A contemporary design created by Norman Millar and Judith Sheine brings Sea Ranch into the 21st Century with a home of
