Happy Birthday Greenmeadow

Sixty years have passed and Joseph Eichler’s Greenmeadow neighborhood in Palo Alto is still going strong and, in fact, recently celebrated it’s birthday in the community-oriented style that Joseph Eichler envisioned for his developments. Keeping with a Hawaiian luau theme, residents enjoyed a day of fun, food, and hula.
Palo Alto’s Greenmeadow is an Eichler development of 270 homes that were built in three stages, with the first two constructed in 1954 and ’55. It was one of Eichler’s first efforts to attract a more upscale market and features larger 4-bedroom homes with six different floor plans, all designed by Jones & Emmons. The Greenmeadow neighborhood centers around a community center and park that is the hub of social activity – and was the site of the recent birthday celebration.
Greenmeadow is one of two Palo Alto Eichler neighborhoods that is on the National Register of Historic Places. (The other is Green Gables.)
Happy birthday, Greenmeadow! Long live the Eichler spirit. Here’s to the next 60 years!!
