Holiday Warm-up: Christmas Lights And Celebrations During Thanksgiving Week

If your family is like mine, everyone is always looking for something to do this week when they aren’t eating turkey, watching the big game on TV, or participating in the Black Friday shopping frenzy. Whether you’re just itching to get out of the house or Grandma and Grandpa are looking for something fun to do with the grandkids, a great way to get into the spirit of the holidays is going to one of the great holiday light displays that are happening this week in the Bay Area, Sacramento, and down south where our Southern California Eichler and MCM enthusiasts are.
Sacramento will be getting into the spirit on November 26, 2014 with the Sacramento Tree Lighting ceremony in Old Sacramento. This will also be the first night of the traditional Theatre of Lights, which continues in Old Sac on Thursday – Sunday evenings throughout the season. Another fun holiday light tradition is the Global Winter Wonderland exhibiting through December at Cal Expo. I haven't been, but I've heard it is amazing!
Down in Southern California the holidays will get their start with the Hollywood Christmas Parade on Sunday, November 30. Stevie Wonder will be this year’s Grand Marshall, and in typical Hollywood style, plenty of celebrities will be participating. The Los Angeles Zoo will also be getting into the holiday spirit when they light the L.A. Zoo Lights on November 28.
A little closer to home (well, at least my home…) we’ve got a few Bay Area holiday amusements in store this week, as well. In the South Bay, a San Jose tradition, Christmas in the Park, will kick off the season with the Tree Lighting Ceremony. I think one of the first holiday celebrations in Marin will be the San Rafael Parade of Lights & Winter Wonderland in downtown San Rafael on November 28 and 29.
Festivities in San Francisco this week include the Union Square Tree Lighting on Friday (November 28) as well as the Tree Lighting Ceremony at Ghirardelli Square (also on November 28).
Whatever you and your friends and family do during the Thanksgiving week, I hope you have a wonderful holiday. Happy Thanksgiving from Eichler For Sale!
