LA Scores Its First Sunset Idea House

Los Angeles is getting its first ever Sunset Idea House! There have been so many up here in NorCal that it seems it is about time for our friends in LA to get one of their own. Last year, Sunset ventured to Washington, but most of Sunset’s Idea Houses have been within a relatively easy drive of the Bay Area. Sunset created the eco-glam green Idea House in San Francisco, a chic Sierra retreat near Lake Tahoe, and a Gold Country get-away in El Dorado Hills – not to mention the upscale barn-style Idea House in Monterey Bay and the Breezehouse in Healdsburg (which, BTW, happens to be one of my favorites).
This year’s Idea House is a 4500 square-foot home in Manhattan Beach. Just minutes from the seashore, the 2014 Idea House will redefine what beach living is all about, capturing the SoCal vibe with a timeless sophistication. In the Eichler tradition, the LA Idea House will feature large expanses of glass doors that merge the outside with the in. The home will feature drought-tolerant landscaping with an edible garden, a modern conversation pit, and an outdoor kitchen – all necessities for the casual Southern California lifestyle.
In conjunction with the Idea House, Sunset Magazine will also sponsor The Manhattan Beach Home and Garden Tour on Saturday, August 16. It is designed as a self-guided tour taking an inside look at several exclusive properties in the greater Manhattan Beach area, culminating with a wine and cheese reception at the Sunset Idea House.
The LA Idea House will be opened for tours on weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) August 1, 2014 through September 7. Â You can get your tickets online or on-site during tour hours.
