Modern Home Tour Features Eichler Homes
This weekend’s Silicon Valley Modern Home Tour is going to be an Eichler-palooza. Of the six featured homes on this self-guided tour, three are Eichlers and a fourth is a brand new, Eichler-inspired, atrium home. The remaining two Mid-Century homes on the tour are a Palo Alto home that was designed by Eichler architects Anshen + Allen and a 1963 post-and-beam, steel framed home designed by Beverley David Thorne.
Since this a self-guided, go-at-your-own-pace tour, I imagine you can begin wherever you want – and, if you haven’t already purchased tickets, they will be available on the day of the tour at any of the tour homes:
- 1652 Yorktown, San Mateo – Dubbed the Life House because it was commissioned by Life Magazine in the late 1950s, this San Mateo Highlands home is a custom-built, multi-level Eichler home designed by Pietro Belluschi.
- 863 Cumberland Drive, Sunnyvale – This renovated Sunnyvale Eichler is a great place to pick up a few remodel and landscaping ideas.
- 4050 Ben Lomond Drive, Palo Alto – Located in Greenmeadow, this Eichler home has been updated by Klopf Architecture and features fully open-able walls of glass that literally connect the inside with the out.
- 1512 Harbor Blvd, Belmont – Another Klopf design, this home is an Eichler-inspired, modern atrium home.
- 795 Greer Rd, Palo Alto – This MCM style home was designed by Eichler architects Anshen + Allen.
- 55 Alhambra Ct, Portola Valley – Designed by Beverley David Thorne, this steel post-and-beam home embodies classic California Modern style.
