Palm Springs MCM? There's An App For That!

It seems that Palm Springs has been on my mind lately. Maybe it is Mid-Century Modern in the playground of the stars envy. Or maybe it is time for a little vacation to soak up the sun, hang out in Frank Sinatra’s neighborhood, and party Mad Men style. Palm Springs Modernism Week is celebrating its 10th anniversary – and I’d love to be there!
Even though, much as I’d love to be there, Palm Springs Modernism Week isn’t on my calendar this year, I can still live vicariously – and do the grand tour when I do make down to SoCal by downloading the new Palm Springs Modern App. I kid you not. There’s an app offering a self-guided auto tour of 80+ Mid-Century landmarks in Palm Springs, profiles of some of the key players in the architecture of the area, and lets you hang out virtually in celebrities' homes (think Frank Sinatra, Elvis, and Bob Hope).
If you can make it to this year’s Modernism event, expect things to be bigger and better than ever. Included in the lineup of events are tours of iconic MCM neighborhoods, parties, seminars, home tours, films, and shopping at sponsored events as well as the plethora of Modern design and vintage shops and galleries in town. And if you are new to town, the planners are ready for you. Check out the modernism week for newbies page. Anything that included MCM design, parties, and shopping sounds like a good time to me!
