If you love the Zen of Japanese design, you won’t want to miss the upcoming show at Heath San Francisco. Japanese master potter Akio Nukaga and a few of his friends are in town, and Heath SF will be showcasing their latest work July 11 – August 8, 2014. In addition to Akio’s ceramics, functional and sculptural pieces by woodworker Hideki Takayama and hand-dyed Japanese cloths known as tenugui, created by Kawamanu, will be featured.
The celebration begins this weekend with an Opening Reception on Saturday, July 11, 2014. Sunday, July 12, will be a day of demonstrations: Watch Akio throw pottery; learn how to sand, oil, and finish a wooden spoon by Takayama; or join Megumi Inouye for a tenugui wrapping demonstration.
Even if you can’t make it to this weekend’s celebration, you’ve got the rest of the month – and part of August - to visit Heath SF and enjoy the amazing artwork produced by Akio Nukaga and Friends. I’m excited about the new exhibit that kicks off tonight with a members’ reception at the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art. Created to appeal to all you contemporary design buffs out there, the show features the award winning, San Francisco based firm of Aidlin Darling in the exhibition Site and Senses: The Architecture of Aidlin Darling Design. Running from December 20, 2013 to March 2, 2014, the exhibit takes an innovative, multi-sensory approach to the impact that architecture has on our lives.
As part of the exhibit, the museum is offering a public educational program on two Tuesdays in January (January 14 + January 21) titled Icons of Modern Architecture. This seminar will take a look at some of the modern era’s most notable buildings.
I’m sure this exhibition will be inspirational for all of us who appreciate modern design – not to mention the fact we might be able to work in a little wine tasting as part of the excursion!2013-12-20T13:44:00-07:002019-03-04T02:55:48-07:00Marin Modern Team
