All of you MCM fanatics out there will want to mark your calendars (if you haven’t already done so!) for the upcoming Palm Springs Modernism Week. Once the playground for some of Hollywood’s greatest celebs, including Bob Hope, Dinah Shore, Bing Crosby, Marilyn Monroe, the legendary Rat Pack; Palm Springs epitomizes the glamour of Mid-Century Modern design. Every February, the city pulls out all the stops with a grand celebration of everything Mid-Century Mod.
This year Joseph Eichler will be honored at Modernism Week with a day full of activities that include a tour of the newly constructed Desert Eichler homes, a 21st Century incarnation of Eichler’s original homes. In addition to Eichler Day, participants can attend films and lectures on Modernism, sight-see on home tours, shop at the Palm Springs Modernism Show & Sale, and party nightly. What’s not to love?
Modernism Week runs February 11-21, 2016. Heath Ceramics has long been celebrated for innovative design and a tradition of “form follows function” handcrafted stoneware. Founded in 1948 in Sausalito, Heath has expanded with the addition of a tile factory and retail showroom in San Francisco as well as Los Angeles.
The simple elegant design of Heath dinnerware, from the original Heath Coupe Line (modernism at its best) to the newest addition to its line make it a popular choice for Eichler and other MCM and contemporary enthusiasts, as well as those with traditional taste. In addition to dinnerware, Heath showcases household and decorative items designed by kindred artisans from around the world.
If you’ve always wanted to own some Heath pottery – or want to add to your collection, you’ll probably be interested in their upcoming sale. Heath is offering 20% off all in-story purchases during the Open Studio and Sale on November 20-23, 2015 in all three locations – Sausalito, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
There’s a lot more in store than saving a few dollars at this fun event. Each venue will be offering tours, food, and hands-on workshops. I have a feeling that the workshops are going to be popular – so if you are interested in glazing a vase or creating an elegant wreath you’ll want to RSVP early.
