If you love contemporary style, love to shop and love to travel, dust off your passport and head for the airport. London is the place to be this week. The annual London Design Festival has hit town and it looks like fun. Billed as the UK’s biggest design event the Festival has, in the past, hosted visitors from all over the world; and with almost 400 events staged throughout London, this year’s celebration promises more of the same.

As part of the London Design Festival, Designjunction brings its flagship show to town. (They have also presented international shows in New York and Milan.) Designjuntion will be exhibiting at two venues; one is billed as a design destination and the other, with 2000+ sq. meters (which translates to 21,527+ sq. ft. for

It is always a treat to visit Heath Ceramics. On the off chance you haven’t heard about them, Heath Ceramics is an historic tableware and architectural tile company that had its beginnings in Sausalito, CA in 1948. It has since added a new tile factory and showroom in San Francisco and a showroom in Los Angeles. Always valuing thoughtful design and quality over quantity, Heath Ceramics is a treasure trove for anyone looking for unique, classically modern design.

Now would be a great time to pay one of the showrooms a visit. If you are going to be in the LA area this month, Japanese potter Akio Nukaga will be returning to Heath Los Angeles with a bevy of new pieces along with a few of his signature designs. Along with Akio’s work, sculptural

We are right smack dab in the middle of San Francisco Design Week, which is an absolutely fabulous event for any Bay Area resident who has even the faintest interest in design. Billed as “an exhibition & sale of modern design”, SFDW is opened to everyone, trade and public.

With a full roster of 75+ events, the design event offers the opportunity to meet some of the San Francisco Bay Area’s most innovative design professionals, connect with entrepreneurs, and see what local businesses have to offer – from high tech design to every day household items.

I’m thinking that one of the most interesting looking events is the two-night Studio Tours event which includes an “open house” at a variety of design and architecture studios, shops, and galleries
