Channing Park Eichler Homes, Palo Alto
Channing Park was one of Joseph Eichler’s early Palo Alto housing developments. Built in 1951, the Channing Park Eichlers are located just off Channing Avenue on De Soto Drive and around the corner on Alester Avenue in Palo Alto’s Duveneck – St. Francis neighborhood.
There are 57 Eichler homes in Channing Park, each designed by Anshen + Allen. Most of the homes are 3 to 4-bedroom/2-bath models featuring larger rooms and more storage space than Eichler’s earlier homes. The Channing Park Eichlers also added other amenities and upgrades designed to appeal to the modern consumer and included landscaping by well-known landscape architects Thomas Church and Kathryn Stedman.
Although the Duveneck neighborhood is often referred to as Green Gables, and Channing Park is sometimes said to be in Green Gables, the Green Gables Eichler tract, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, is a separate community located several blocks to the east of Channing Park.Â
