Hillsborough Eichler Homes
There are no specific Eichler tracts in Hillsborough – and the few Eichler homes that are in Hillsborough are sometimes difficult to identify, as they are nestled in among other Mid-century and contemporary homes, estates, and grand properties. A few of the Hillsborough Eichlers are found on Barroilhet Avenue, Eucalyptus Avenue, and Sierra Drive.
Most of the Eichlers built in Hillsborough were custom or customized homes built between the mid-1960s and the early 1970s, a time period when Eichler was building more customized homes in Northern California, including in Sleepy Hollow (Marin) and Stanford as well as Hillsborough. Joseph Eichler’s personal home, which he lived in from 1972 to 1974 in located in Hillsborough, as well as a rare 2-story home designed by Jones & Emmons and customized by John Brooks Boyd.
As a note of interest: Joseph Eichler’s design aesthetic was influenced by his experience living in the Bazett House in Hillsborough in the mid-1940s. The home is a Frank Lloyd Wright designed Usonian House and the architecture inspired Eichler’s career as a builder.
