Redwood City Eichler Homes
Eichler homes in Redwood City can be found in four relatively small tracts that were built in the early 1950s. Atherwood, bound by Parkwood Way and Atherwood and Oakfield Avenues, is Redwood City’s largest Eichler tract. Slightly north of Atherwood, in Sequoia Meadow, Eichlers homes are located on Northumberland Avenue and Cypress Street. Another Eichler tract, Fairwood, is located on Lyons Street.
Atherwood, completed in 1950, was Joseph Eichler’s first project in Redwood City. Homes in Atherwood are typical early Eichlers with 3-bedrooms and 1 or 2 bathrooms. Fairwood was built in 1953 and are mostly 3-bedroom, 2-bath homes averaging just over 1300 square feet of living space. The last tract that Eichler built in Redwood City was Sequoia Meadow. Constructed in 1954, the Sequoia Meadow Eichlers are primarily 3-bedroom homes with 1110 square feet, although a few larger 1400 square feet models are in the mix.
As a note of interest: In 1950, Architectural Forum named Atherwood as one of four Subdivisions of the Year. (The other three Eichler tracts honored were El Centro Gardens, Green Gables Addition, and Greer Park – all in Palo Alto.)
