Rose Glen + Fairhaven Eichlers, San Jose
The first and last Eichler developments to be built in San Jose are located in the Rose Glen and Fairhaven tracts. The Rose Glen Eichlers, built in the early 1950s, are located near San Jose City College on Menker Avenue, Goodwin Avenue, and Richmond Avenue between Kingman and Fruitdale. Fairhaven’s Eichler homes were built in 1961-62 and can be found on Mossbrook Avenue, Mossbrook Circle, and Student Lane.
The 75 Eichlers in the Rose Glen neighborhood are built in the early Eichler style with several different designs that Eichler was experimenting with at the beginning of his career as a builder. Most of these modest homes are less than 1300 square feet with three bedrooms and two baths.
Fairhaven is a smaller Eichler community of 57 Eichler homes. Typical of the later Eichlers, the Fairhaven homes are larger, averaging 1700 square feet, and feature three different Eichler designs, two of which are atrium models. Fairhaven is often called Mossbrook (after the name of two of the three streets in the tract) and is not to be confused with the Fairhaven Eichler neighborhood in southern California.
